Thinking about moving to Canada but worried about the cost of going back to school? Ontario provincial government has a solution: they’re offering a free training and even paying people to become electricians!

Earlier this year, Canada announced plans to welcome 432,000 immigrants in 2022 to address the country wide labor shortage. With over $2 billion in infrastructure projects coming up in Ontario, there’s a huge demand for skilled trades like electricians – and the province is stepping up with a plan.
The Ford government announced that it will be investing investing more than $13 million in projects this week to increase the number of skilled workers across Ontario.
“With over $2 billion in infrastructure projects on the horizon, Ontario faces a shortage of electricians and other skilled trades workers,” reads a release announcing the move. “This investment will help the province deliver critical hospitals, schools, and roads on time and on budget.” said Minister of Labour, Training and Skills Development, Monte McNaughton, when announcing the news.
The new Ontario Electrical Industry Training Trust Fund in particular aims to provide free training and paid apprenticeships for more than 2,500 people across the province who are either “unemployed or looking to earn bigger paychecks.” he added.
Not only will the government pay for all your training (no need to tango with OSAP) and hook you up with a paid apprenticeship, they’ll prepare you to find work in a lucrative field that nearly guarantees job security.
“When you have a job as an electrician, you have an in-demand job for life,”
If you’re thinking about a fresh start in Canada, now’s the perfect time. Not only is this a free path to a rewarding career, but it also opens the door to exciting opportunities – like working from those iconic bucket trucks!
